History
The first written evidence of Nižná is from 1395. Number of inhabitants:4058
Elevation: 573 m a.s.l. Nižná is located at the base of Ostražica hill /767 m/ where foot prints of the halstat culture can be found. The picturesque hills and woodlands surround Nižná. In 1785 there was a paper-mill established in Nižná as well as brewery, wash-basins for cloth and ironworks established in 19th century. In 20th century, Nižná was known as the producer of television sets.

Gothic Roman Catholic Church of St. Gál, which was built between 1614 - 1620
A monument commemorating the World War II victims is located at the cemetery. Three St.Johns´sculpture dating from 1825 Archeological foundations at the top of Ostražica hill.
