Liptov

Subregion of Liptov is formed by a long 80 km basin formed by the River Váh flowing eastwest throughout the basin. It is surrounded by the five highest mountain ranges in Slovakia namely High Tatras, Low Tatras, Western Tatras, Big Fatra and the Choč Hills all of which provide outstanding natural features which are attractive for visitors.

There is an abundance of mineral springs. Many of these are hot and used as spas (e. g. Lúčky and Korytnica Spas) and others as relaxation resorts (e. g. at Bešeňová, Liptovský Ján and Rojkov). There are also many caves and gorges in the surrounding area. The largest and best known caves are the Demänovská Ice Cave of Freedom and the Važec Cave in the Low Tatras. These are open to public.

Liptovská Mara Reservoir is situated in Liptov basin and covers area of 21 sq. km. It reflects the natural beauty of Liptov region with its flora and fauna. The artificial lake is also a paradise for water sports and recreational activities such as fishing.
